I’m here! I’m alive! I’m off the wagon!

So I fell off the WW wagon, hard. And then it ran me over a few times.

I don’t know what is going on in my head. I was doing really, really well, then I wasn’t, then I got back on track, then last week…boom. Off.

So, again. Starting today. Tracking. Running. Taking better care of myself in general.

1. England vs. USA on Saturday. After an extensive examination of each roster, I’ve decided to root for…USA. I know, right? I was shocked too. They have more hot players though, and I can’t mess with my system. Plus, I hate Wayne Rooney. Yes. I said it. I hate Wayne Rooney.

2. I am still steadily losing weight. HOWEVER, I am not tracking and not eating food I should be eating. I also haven’t been running once this week, and that’s no good. Last night, in an act of desperation, I wrote this on my arm:

It totally didn’t work. I worked all morning, no breaks, and by the time I had a break long enough for a run, it was hot out. *whine.* I know, I know. Excuses, excuses. Tomorrow, I am back on it. I don’t care if I have to run at high noon and it’s 125 degrees.

3. I am madly in love with Katy Perry’s new, inane song, California Gurls. Seriously, it’s just amazingly catchy and awesome. It’s been added to the running playlist.

4. I have registered for my next 5K: Race for the Paws, Dewey Beach, DE. I get to run and help animals in the process. What could be better?

5. If anyone out there is looking for a money-making opportunity, I’ve got one for you: taking photographs at 5ks and other assorted sporting/athletic events. I paid 12.00 PLUS 7.00 shipping for FOUR PHOTOGRAPHS from the Blue Hen 5K. *harrumph.*

Annnnnd…that’s about all I have today. 😀

Is anyone out there watching the world cup matches this weekend? Who are you rooting for? More importantly, in your opinion, who is the hottest player?

I’m alive! I promise!

It has been an INSANE week. After weeks and weeks of sending out resumes and going on interviews for part-time and temporary jobs, I finally got not one but TWO offers! And the best part is, I can do them both as the hours don’t overlap.

The best part is, after two years of being self-employed and working from home, I get to get out of the house! I love the work I currently do, and it was fantastic while I was in school. It was also an escape, a way for me to hide away from the world, which was exactly what I wanted when I wasn’t eating right, exercising, or taking care of myself. I hated how I looked and just wanted to shut the world out. I did that, but now that I’ve lost almost 50 pounds (wow, I still can’t believe it), I have a lot more self-confidence and I just want to get out of the house!

I think that is an even better feeling than the physical stuff that’s come from weight loss and exercise. I love that I want to be out among people again. I am such a people person and although, like I said, I love the teaching I do from home, I can;t wait to start getting out and meeting and working with people.

So another exciting thing from last week…I went to my family reunion in North Carolina! It was an eight-hour drive down and back (ugh) but I had iPpy McSkinny and my mom and dad, so we kept ourselves amused. There are 20+ people in my family, so we rented this huge house on Lake Norman:

It had eight bedrooms, a huge game room, kayaks, a paddleboat, a FIRE PIT, a game room, a beach volleyball court….It was flippin’ amazing. I used my weekend away to partake in fun activities, such as paddleboating with my cousin Jennifer:

Hello there!

It was a good thigh workout, I’ll tell you that.

And this was the view of the lake from the house:

Not too shabby, huh?

I did attempt to do week 7 day 3 of C25K and I’m sad to say I failed miserably. The winding road leading to the house is a bit…hillier….than I’m used to, so I had to call it quits. I did however walk/jog for an hour, as well as do a little paddleboating and canoeing.

I did NOT, however, count points. This was the first time since being on Weight Watchers that I didn’t even make an attempt. However, I kept portions in mind and I never felt stuffed at any point, like I’d overeaten. And you know what? If I have a gain next week, I’ll get it off the week after. I had a fantastic time and I don’t regret one delicious morsel!!!

Finally, in  a few short hours, I will be getting my hair done.  I had to cancel last weeks appointment (sadness) because of training for one of my news jobs.

Can I just tell you how excited I am? Basically I’m going to tell her to do whatever she wants, as long as she keeps the general length. I want a bangin’ color, and I do not want subtlety. I want cars swerving on the road as I’m running my little tush off because they’re mesmerized by my hair. Seriously.

So, here is the “Before” photo, taken literally two minutes ago:

I’ll be back after my first day at my spiffy new job and I will show you all my (hopefully) bangin’ new haircut!!!!

Eating Habits

I can not manage to stay OP (on plan) on the weekends. In my head, weekends are a “free time” when, magically, calories don’t exist and I can eat a bag of Oreos and those good n’ terrible fried baked potato bites from Arbys with no repercussions.

I think there are a few reasons for this behaviour:

1. I weigh in on Fridays, so I figure if I’m going to eat all the junk I want, the weekend is the time to do it. I have the rest of the week to double my efforts and show a loss by Friday.

2. Part of me resents that I even have to watch what I eat, and my weekends are my times for rebellion. It’s a terrible thing to say, but it’s true. I see some people who seem to keep weight off and stay healthy effortlessly. The key word there, however, is “seem.”

I know that I have a very unhealthy relationship with food and I’m pretty sure that even someone with lightning-quick metabolism couldn’t have maintained a healthy weight with my previous eating habits and lack of exercise. Granted, I’m not a nutritionist or doctor and so I’m not going to say anything for sure, but…if there’s anyone out there who could have the habits I USED to have and maintain a healthy weight, well…they’re pretty lucky.

I now realize that unless you spend 24/7 with someone, you don’t typically know what they do (or don’t do) as far as eating and exercise. I mean, being on WW, I eat pretty healthy food (weekends aside) with healthy servings. I run 3x a week. If someone were to observe me on a Friday night, they’d probably think I’m a lazy cow, when in reality, that’s not the case anymore. So when I look at people who “seem” to stay slender without watching calories or exercise, I have to remind myself that I don’t know what they do in order to maintain their weight when I’m not around.

I really have to work hard to reframe my negative thoughts and remind myself that if I want to be healthy and happy, counting points and exercise is something I’m going to have to do for the rest of my life, and I can’t look at what other people do and wish I could do that. Some people can eat healthy portions of food without counting them up, WW-style. I am not one of those people.

I know this time that WW is not some quick fix. Once I hit my goal weight, whatever that may be, I will never be able to stop following the program. I made that mistake last time, and I gained over 100 pounds in 2 years.

Stop! Smoothie time!

So, lots of the girls on the WW boards always talk about the amazing smoothies they make.  I was feeling a little hungry this afternoon so I decided to whip one up. I had these ingredients on hand: fresh strawberries, canned pineapple, banana, FF organic milk.

I’ve never been a fan of banana in smoothies so I decided against that. I used the following:

1/2 C. FF organic milk

1/2 cup fresh strawberries

1/2 cup pineapple chunks (canned)

I *didn’t* use ice because my blender, for some reason, protests against it and never actually blends the ice. I probably will play around with different settings next time as I prefer my smoothies icy.

Anyway, here was the result!

I think in the future I will try to be brave enough to try a green monster. I have a hangup about the spinach, but I’ll get over it.

I also found these this weekend: Stretch Island Fruit Co.’s All Natural Fruit Strips.

I used to be able to wolf down a whole box of Fruit by the Foot in a single sitting. I ❤ fruit snacks of all shapes and sizes, and so these things are a Godsend! I LOVE THEM! (NI: 45/0/1)*happy fruit snack dance*

Oh, Wings to Go…

So, when I was an undergraduate student at the University of Delaware, Newark, like many other college towns, had some of the most AMAZINGLY AWFUL restaurants. I’m talking good n’ terrible. One restaurant in particular is single-handedly responsible for my freshman 15 (and my sophomore 15, and the junior 20….). It is called Wings To Go, and were I a superhero (now I need an awesome superhero name. Suggestions, anyone?), it would be my Kryptonite. No joke.

I found Wings To Go early on in my college career and ordered from them at least once a week, if not more. I shudder to think the calories ingested and the amount of money spent on chicken tenders and cheese fries. That was my standard order: chicken tenders smothered in the most amazing BBQ sauce known to man, and an order of cheese fries (cheese on the fries, not on the side).

So this weekend, I went to visit one of my best friends and helped her clean and move into her new digs. Friday night we went to an awesome Italian restaurant. I had a glass of wine instead of a mixed drink and I had spaghetti with meatballs instead of some of the pasta with creamy sauces I was eyeing. I ate half of the spaghetti, splurged a little on some bread, and then had some fruit snacks back at her apartment as a snack while we cleaned.

Then, Saturday. Wings to Go was calling my name.  I was really good for breakfast (fruit and yogurt) and then decided to splurge. I ordered my staple order from undergrad, and sadly, I remembered the phone number. Yikes.

I have to say, it was probably the worst meal I’ve ever had on WW, calorie-wise, but oh my God, was it good, and dare I say, worth every. single. calorie.

I’ve said this before on this blog, but I’ll say it again. I splurged on my Wings to Go awesomeness, but I don’t feel bad about it. I don’t eat like that very often, and really, the food tastes MUCH better because of that. When I was eating Wings to Go 2x a week, I wasn’t enjoying it. It was just one more thing I was shoveling in my mouth.

On Saturday, Wings to Go was awesomeness all around. I ❤ You, Wings to Go of Newark, DE. And I ❤ You, Weight Watchers, for helping me to enjoy good n’ terrible food again (and allowing me to lose weight while I do).
